About This Service

Every great finish floor starts with a great substrate. Epoxy coatings, luxury vinyl plank, porcelain tile, polished concrete — none of them perform correctly on a slab that has heaved, settled, spalled, or developed surface irregularities over time. Unfortunately, Northeast Ohio's clay-heavy soils, freeze-thaw cycles, and aging housing stock mean that a huge percentage of residential and commercial concrete slabs eventually develop exactly those problems. What looks like a small dip or a patch of rough surface is actually a substrate problem that will cause any finish flooring applied over it to fail early, look uneven, or develop cracks that telegraph through from below. Self-leveling concrete is the professional fix: a specialized pour-in-place cementitious overlay that flows across the existing slab, fills every low spot, and self-levels to a perfectly flat plane — permanently correcting the substrate so your finish floor has the foundation it deserves.

Our process is exacting because self-leveling concrete is unforgiving of shortcuts. We start by thoroughly cleaning and mechanically preparing the existing slab — shot blasting or diamond grinding as required to remove laitance, old coatings, and surface contaminants that would prevent proper bonding. Cracks, expansion joints, and through-slab penetrations are addressed with appropriate crack-repair products and joint-treatment protocols so they don't telegraph through the overlay. A bonding primer is then applied across the entire slab, creating a chemical interface between the existing concrete and the self-leveling pour. Only after this preparation is complete do we mix and place the self-leveler itself, using calibrated water ratios, proper spike-roller technique, and experienced spread-and-gauge rake work to ensure the material flows to its designed thickness and cures to a mirror-flat surface. For slabs with significant elevation differences, we use multiple passes, proper shoring of edges and doorways, and experienced grade-control to achieve the final plane.

The result is a new, structurally bonded surface that measures within a small fraction of an inch across the entire slab — something that is simply impossible to achieve with hand-troweled patching or self-leveling attempts by non-professionals. Self-leveling concrete is how commercial flooring contractors prep slabs for high-performance epoxy systems, and it's how we prepare Canton-area residential and commercial slabs for our own epoxy work or for any other finish flooring the homeowner chooses. It's also a cost-effective alternative to full concrete replacement — a slab that has shifted or pitted but is otherwise structurally sound can be brought to like-new condition at a fraction of the cost of tear-out and repour. Every Canton Epoxy self-leveling pour is designed to the exact application the substrate will receive, and every project is backed by the same professional standards that have earned us a 5-star reputation across Northeast Ohio.

Key Features

Precision-Flat Final Surface

Our self-leveling compound cures to a mirror-flat plane within a small fraction of an inch across the entire slab — the substrate standard required for premium epoxy, tile, or luxury vinyl flooring.

Corrects Uneven, Heaved, Settled Slabs

Fills low spots, flattens high spots, and restores a single uniform plane — critical for homes and commercial spaces with decades of freeze-thaw-driven slab movement.

Fixes Spalled, Pitted, & Damaged Concrete

Surface defects that would telegraph through any finish floor — pitting, spalling, minor crack networks, deteriorated surface layer — are permanently covered by a strong, bonded overlay.

Mechanical Surface Preparation

Shot blasting or diamond grinding removes existing coatings, laitance, and contaminants before the overlay is poured — ensuring a permanent bond between the old slab and the new pour.

Bonding Primer System

A specialty bonding primer is applied across the entire slab before the self-leveler is placed, chemically locking the new overlay to the existing concrete for long-term performance.

Thickness Engineered to the Application

Thickness ranges from 1/8 inch (feather-finish leveling) to 2+ inches (structural overlay), engineered to the specific condition of your slab and the finish floor that will follow.

Fast Cure, Fast Return to Service

Self-leveling overlays cure fast — light foot traffic is typically possible within 4 hours, and finish flooring can often be installed within 24–48 hours depending on thickness and product.

How It Works

Our Installation Process

1

Slab Assessment & Free Estimate

We visit your property, measure the slab, inspect for cracks and structural concerns, confirm the finish flooring you intend to install, and specify the required overlay thickness. Estimate includes transparent itemized pricing.

2

Mechanical Surface Preparation

Shot blasting or diamond grinding removes existing coatings, laitance, and surface contaminants, opening the concrete profile and creating the clean, sound substrate self-leveling compound requires to bond permanently.

3

Crack & Joint Treatment

Cracks are routed and filled with semi-rigid polyurea or epoxy filler. Expansion joints are treated per manufacturer spec. Any through-slab penetrations are addressed so they don't telegraph through the overlay.

4

Bonding Primer Application

A specialty bonding primer is applied across the entire slab, creating the chemical interface that locks the new overlay to the existing concrete for long-term structural bond.

5

Self-Leveling Compound Pour

The self-leveler is mixed to calibrated water ratios, placed by pump or bucket, spread with experienced spike-roller and gauge-rake technique, and allowed to flow to its designed thickness. Grade control and edge shoring ensure a flawless final plane.

6

Cure, Inspect, Hand-Off

The overlay cures under controlled conditions. We verify flatness, inspect bond quality at edges, and confirm the slab is ready for its next phase — whether that's our own epoxy system or another contractor's finish flooring.
